Buxton Hotel - Lobby Entry View

THE XTRA EXPERIENCE

Built on heart.
Named with love.

The Buxton carries the names — and spirits — of two extraordinary people. This is their story, and now yours too.

THE NAMESAKES

Every name here has a soul behind it.

The Buxton carries the names — and spirits — of two extraordinary people. This is their story, and now yours too.

Nina Bell Buxton and her granddaughter, Ashley Stiles
James Caldwell Davis
Nina Belle Buxton

THE HEART OF THE BUXTON HOTEL

Nina Belle was warm, fiery, and unforgettable. She could make you the best meal of your life and then share all the best town gossip. She dressed like a proper lady but knew how to get dirty in the garden. She was revered for her flowers — peonies and roses — and her ability to make absolutely anyone feel like they belonged.

Her favorite color was dusty PINK. It's in the walls here. It's in the flowers. It's in the way we treat every single guest who walks through our door

James Caldwell Davis

THE SOUL OF THE CALDWELL BAR

James Caldwell Davis was strong without being hard. He taught Ashley to fish, to wrestle, to love classic country and a good knee-slapper. He was Chickasaw, beloved in his community, and the kind of person who made every room feel like home from the moment he walked in.

When Ashley's grandma needed to feel close to him, she'd watch for the hummingbird. He's still here — in the laughter at The Caldwell bar, in every good night that stretches into the early hours.

THE TEAM BEHIND IT ALL

Nina Bell Buxton's Garden

Female-founded.
Native-owned.

Community-driven.

Tribe Development is a Minority- and Women-Owned Small Business led by Ashley Stiles, a proud member of the Chickasaw Nation. We believe diversity promotes creativity, innovation, and connection — and it shows in every project we build.

The Buxton is more than a hotel redevelopment. It's a story about bringing a beloved Fort Collins property back to its full glory — and doing it with intention, community partnership, and a whole lot of heart.

"We start every project by developing a strong brand vision unique to each place. This results in spaces that are reflective, inspirational, and aspirational — that connect with all people who interact with them."

HISTORY OF THE PROPERTY

A storied corner of Fort Collins.

1962
The Hotel Opens
The original building opens on College Avenue — lobby, offices, and 34 guest rooms with exterior entries. A Fort Collins institution is born.

1962
The Hotel Opens
A 16,000 sq ft east building adds 36 more guest rooms — including the first interior-entry rooms and two suites.
1962
The Hotel Opens
Over several days in September, Andy Warhol visited Fort Collins, stayed at this very property, and signed three giant Campbell's soup cans at CSU before thousands. (John Denver flew him in on his private plane. Of course he did.)
1962
The Hotel Opens
Both buildings are renovated and the pool is enclosed with a retractable roof — the same pool that now transforms into event space at The Buxton.
1962
The Hotel Opens
Tribe Development reimagines the property from the ground up — bringing it back to its full glory as The Buxton Hotel, Where Xtra is Welcomed.

THE NAMESAKES

The values that live in every detail.

Heartfelt Hospitality
We don't do service by the book. We do it by the heart. Every smile, every guest, every thoughtful detail is how we show up for the people in our care.

Always Authentic
No pretense. No performance. We're confident, warm, and real - like a message from a trusted friend who also happens to run an incredible hotel.

Family First
This place was built from family stories and carries family values. Every guest who walks through our doors becomes part of that.
Community is Identity
We're not just in Fort Collins - we're of Fort Collins. Our partnerships, our local sourcing, our team: all of it reflects the community we're proud to call home
Be Xtra
The xtra cookie. The xtra smile. The xtra minute you didn't expect. It's the small things done with intention that turn a stay into a story.
Be Thoughtful. Be Kind.
It's our motto for a reason. Thoughtfulness and kindness aren't policies here - they're the foundation everything else is built on.
